During the first week, we discussed the concept of ‘debate vs. dialogue’. This fueled an interesting conversation between my classmates and I. The conversation itself proved my point in that it is possible to have a mix of debate and dialogue. I pointed out that debating typically has a negative connotation because it is tied anger and impulse. However, towards the end of our discussion, we all recognized that debates can be good when one is listening to understand, rather than immediately attacking the person they are conversing with.

We also talked about the intersectionality between our marginalized and privileged identities. This was also a fun discussion to engage in. It allowed us to reflect on our social identities and recognize which ones are more dominant in our lives. I realized that my marginalized identities have created a lot more difficulties in my life in comparison to my privileged identities. However, it did remind me that all of my identities play a part in my life somehow, and it is important to embrace all of them.
